Meet the Garden Shed!

Exciting news - the Lyttleton Co-op garden shed is nearly finished, though there’s still work to do! So many amazing volunteer hours have gone into this project (funded via a state government CBP grant) and now the willow cedar shed is almost ready for not only storing tools but a space that can be used for gardening workshops, and more.

The Garden Working Bee people, especially John and Emma, have done the work of clearing the space for building the excellent base, erecting the shed, bringing in more volunteers and providing a fun event for children. Erst and Sid have painted the exterior with Tung oil to better preserve it, others have sorted bricks for the base and helped prepare the area.

Contributions such as insulation for the roof and gardening tools have been donated by generous Co-Op members. Others are offering to help build a deck to expand the working space and enable the addition of an accessible ramp. All this in just one month!

We are also looking for extra help at the Garden Working Bees from now on to complete the shed and its environs, as well as establish the space and installation of a rainwater tank in the original garden on Badgery Crescent. This project has been a great example of what a Not-For-Profit Cooperative can do – bring community together to share in creating a learning space for resilience and production of healthy non-toxic food without the exchange of money for labour!
