MEET THE MAKER: Nastia Gladushchenko

Who are you and what do you make?
My name is Nastia and I’m an artist living in Katoomba in the Blue Mountains. I create public art in the form of murals but also design prints and work on smaller scale paintings. I use oversized plants and flowers to remind people to take care of the environment and each other and to reconnect the urban and natural worlds.

What do you enjoy making the most?
I adore stepping back while painting a public mural and observing the effect it has on the streetscape and on the passers by.

Nastia’s ground mural in in the Springwood town square.

The mural was inspired by a survey she took of the community and their dreams for the town centre where they wanted to see more flowers, trees, colours and music.

What do the Blue Mountains mean to you?
Home, peace, freedom, inspiration. My partner and I are both heavily influenced by nature in our work so every day brings us new ideas and having the mental and physical space to bring those ideas to fruition has been so precious. As new parents, we are also very excited to raise our daughter in this very special, creative and supportive community.

What can we expect to find of yours at the Summertide Makers Market ?
There will be wearable pieces, prints, cards, tiny original works and a handful of small plant sculptures.
